Well, it is that time of year again! Time to begin anew, to better ourselves. It is time to launch new ideas, plan new beginnings, and realize our loftiest dreams!
This is what I want 2014 to feel like. Airy. Confident. Calm. Structured. New.
Today has been a day full of planning and focus. I have been building a spreadsheet to track expenses for this coming year, and in doing so, I am beginning to really look forward to my new endeavors. I am looking forward to launching The Object Studio as a business. I am looking forward to an organized studio. I am looking forward to many new opportunities and meeting wonderful people.
I received Grow Your Handmade Business by Kari Chapin for Christmas from one of the families I babysit for. They have been great motivators in me getting my act together when it comes to The Object Studio. I am just beginning to get into this book, but I'm loving it so far. It digs deep into dreaming up, planning, and launching a creative business. These sort of books always motivate me, and this could not have come at a better time!
So far I am delving into the WHY. Into the WANT of running my business. And you know what? I DO want to do this. I DO want to run The Object Studio and I DO want to make it successful.
One of my major setback I have always had to deal with has been organization. Now, I have never been able to be called organized. I am not organized. It is hard for me to work in an overly uncluttered space (think library - NOT my ideal). One of my goals this year is to become less cluttered. This is a two part problem: I have too much stuff and I don't have enough space to put it. This past weekend, I built these shelves in a small space behind the door to my studio. I'm still in process of filling it, but already I feel a lot better about my space. Next is to clear off my two desks and get rid of all my closet clutter, which includes so much paper and "I'll use this someday" materials.
How are you planning your new year? Are you heading off into uncharted waters? I'd love to hear about your ambitions for this new 2014.
Alright, back to Grow Your Handmade Business!
